WHAT is your idea of an adventurous summer? For six Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DEA) Gold level candidates, it means conquering the tallest mountain in Wales and devouring Robin Hood tales in Nottingham! The students are on a 25-day ''Hongkong Midlands Exchange Project'' that would help them complete their DEA Gold Award requirement, the highest category, in two aspects: an expedition and a residential project.
The four-day expedition aims to help participants develop a spirit of discovery and leadership.
The students will trek up Snowdon, the loftiest mountain in Wales , which rises to 1,085 m (3,560 ft), slightly higher, but much colder and wilder, than Hongkong's tallest hill Tai Mo Shan.
''As gold level students, we have already tackled most hills in Hongkong. I really look forward to this new challenge,'' said 21-year-old Hongkong University of Science and Technology student Henry Yan Chi-hang before the departure.
This meant equipping themselves with gaiters, mountain boots, gloves, thermal wear, fleece and waterproof jackets.
''This is quite a budget for students like us,'' sixth-former Marylux Kan Miu-hing of Lai King Catholic Secondary School said.
