You heard it here first: the top of The Landmark - Central's upmarket shopping complex - is set to become Hong Kong's first boutique hotel. Hongkong Land's plan to convert the top 15 floors of Edinburgh Tower is already well advanced and SAR understands a completion date of late 2004 is possible.

The hotel will be the crowning glory for The Landmark, a temple of luxury-goods shopping. With the Central and Hong Kong MTR stations nearby and neighbouring Chater House (scheduled to open in November) all connected within one air-conditioned marble labyrinth, well-heeled tourists will be able to enjoy the city without having to step outdoors.

Hongkong Land refused to comment on the plans, which have not been officially released, but SAR sources are impeccable.
