Microsoft will move its 250 Hong Kong employees to Cyberport in October, giving the controversial project a much-needed boost by occupying two floors in the 10-storey Phase One building. Microsoft Hong Kong general manager Mark Phibbs said that the move was a commitment by the world's largest software company to both Cyberport and to Hong Kong's efforts to become the information technology hub for the Pearl River Delta. 'We said we would be an anchor tenant in Cyberport, and we believe in living up to our commitments. We share the Government's vision of creating a knowledge-based economy in Hong Kong,' he said. Microsoft has signed a five-year lease on 40,000 square feet in the Phase One development. All of Microsoft's Hong Kong employees, most of whom work in marketing and administration, will make the move. The company has occupied two floors in CityPlaza 3 and 4 for the past ten years.
