I have been alarmed by the speculation and numerous articles appearing in the press on the future of the current head of the Equal Opportunities Commission, Anna Wu.
The fact that the commission has performed its duty in an exemplary manner and exposed bad policy-making by several government departments, is to be applauded.
I am sure the majority of Hong Kong residents would consider her re-appointment to be a litmus test for Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa.
He has promised the people of Hong Kong greater accountability and transparency in his new term with the appointment of principal officials. If Ms Wu is not reappointed then it is clear there will be no accountability or transparency.
It will be just an expensive and empty shuffling of the same faces, under different titles, but clearly without any fundamental change to the system.
