THE crowd snapped their fingers and swayed to the hip-hop music bellowing out from a nearby hi-fi.
Far from disco dancing though, they were actually watching Hongkong's first music-backed Reebok Blacktop 3-on-3 basketball tournament held recently at the Victoria Park.
This format involves two teams of three players playing on a half court in two seven-minute halves.
The chic of it is the upbeat, most often rap, music which accompanies the match.
The competition was for boys under-16 and under-19, and as many as 96 teams entered the two-day tournament.
They vied to represent Hongkong in the Reebok Asia/Pacific Challenge in Sydney in November, where six other youth teams from Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Australia, will meet for a final showdown.
