Hollywood star John Travolta is to pilot a Boeing 707 in to Hong Kong next month as part of a world tour sponsored by an airline.
The 49-year-old superstar and dedicated pilot - who was refused permission to land his private jet in the SAR three years ago - is expected to be allowed to fly his jet into Chek Lap Kok in mid-July.
Travolta will fly in from Singapore and is expected to be accompanied by his wife, Kelly Preston, as part of Qantas' Spirit of Friendship tour that covers 13 cities in 10 countries, with Hong Kong being the 6th stop. The Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction star, who bought the 30-year-old jet from Qantas four years ago and who has been named ambassador-at-large for the airline, will set off on his tour from Los Angeles and fly to Auckland next Monday.
He is expected to spend a few days in the territory.
In April 1999, the actor came to Hong Kong on his private jet but was refused permission to land, and was forced to head for Macau International Airport, where he was given permission to land. The glitch reportedly meant he did not arrive at his hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui until the middle of the night.
John Li, chief executive of the Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre, which caters for private jets, said a plane might be rejected permission for several reasons, such as a lack of insurance or excessive noise.
