Two exciting percussion groups will be The Rhythm and The Beat of Hong Kong this summer.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department presents the Red Poppy Percussion and the Caribbean Magic Steelband from Trinidad.

The former is the mainland's first all-female percussion ensemble, made up of eight young talented musicians. With an average age of only 22, they already have about 100 performances around the world including cities in North America and South Africa to their credit.

The Caribbean Magic Steelband, founded 1993, is a larger ensemble of 19 young musicians who all play large oil drums.

The steelband has a wide-ranging repertoire including jazz, calypso and reggae.

Red Poppy will play on July 19 at the Auditorium in Tsuen Wan Town Hall and the Caribbean Magic Steelband will perform at Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium on August 20. Tickets available through Urbtix. For programme information, call 2268 7321. Reservations call 2734 9009.
