The Powerpuff Girls - Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup - have a new mission. But the cartoon heroines are not saving the world this time: they're promoting escalator safety in the MTR.
Prepare yourself for 48 safety ambassadors deployed throughout stations and posters of the Powerpuff Girls instructing on riding rules. If you're thinking this is another inane Hong Kong community awareness campaign, you're right. (And it's a nice master stroke of marketing for Time Warner, the home of the Powerpuff Girls.)
'We don't have the statistics on hand but the number of accidents is very low,' an MTR spokeswoman said. 'We still have to keep educating the passengers how to use the escalator in a safe way.' She added that passengers are likely to lose their balance because they don't hold the rails or stand too close to the edge of the stair.
