A man who tried to rob a bank armed only with a piece of paper on which he had written 'robbery, with gun' was jailed for 29 months yesterday. Chong King-yee, 24, had pleaded guilty last month to attempted robbery of the Yuen Long branch of the Bank of Communications on March 16. He was captured after fleeing when an alarm went off. 'This is a particularly amateurish offence. The defendant did not arm himself with anything. He made no attempt to disguise himself. The robbery had very little chance of succeeding,' said District Court judge Bernard Whaley. 'Nevertheless, this is a serious offence,' the judge added.
