Hactl achieves strong 25pc growth

Hongkong Air Cargo Terminals (Hactl) continues to report a strong rebound in overall tonnage with a second consecutive month of more than 25 per cent air cargo growth over last year.

Hactl, which handles more than 80 per cent of the SAR's air cargo, saw United States-bound exports surge 60.1 per cent year on year last month, boosting throughput 27.4 per cent to 160,192 tonnes.

Tonnage throughput at Hactl in the second quarter rose 24.1 per cent over last year to 465,261 tonnes, while first half tonnage growth rose 17.4 per cent to 872,848 tonnes.

'The growth sustained in the second quarter was primarily driven by strong export demand to the United States and Europe,' Hactl marketing director Summit Chan said.

'Volume was impressive in June for exports to the US, up 73.8 per cent against last year, amid a strong charter market.'

Significant year-on-year growth in exports was also recorded from key Asian markets in the second quarter, including South Korea which saw a 38.3 per cent increase and Japan which saw 23.5 per cent growth.
