THE mother of three-year-old burns victim Kwong Sai-hin was yesterday allowed to stay in Hongkong for another year following Governor Chris Patten's promise to extend her visa. The renewed visa also allows Kwong Chow Kam-siu, 28, to work in the territory and makes her eligible to apply for a temporary identity card. Mrs Kwong brought Sai-hin to Hongkong for treatment after he suffered serious burns in a fire in their Dongguan home two years ago. Mrs Kwong's visa was to expire tomorrow. Mr Patten read of her plight in the South China Morning Post on Monday and asked the Immigration Department to extend her stay for as long as her son was receiving treatment.
