Folk music from two ends of the Earth unite on the stages of Sha Tin Town Hall and Tsuen Wan Town Hall this weekend. Children's ensemble Vesselyache from Bulgaria dresses in traditional attire, sings its way through games of hide and seek and chases butterflies. Manding Jata, an acrobatic dance troupe from Mali, West Africa, portrays the story of Prince Sunjata to the backing of drums and a 21-string kora. Back To The Earth

Three ethnic dance companies from the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong join forces for Back To Earth - a show which takes a comprehensive look at new works in Chinese ethnic dance. From Taiwan, the Taipei Folk Dance Theatre was the first professional folk dance company which initially formed in 1988. Since then, it has toured extensively throughout Europe, America, Africa and Asia. The Yunnan Elite Dance Company is formed from leading young dancers of the province, who all come from myriad ethnic groups and include such national stars as Yang Xukang and Tao Chun. The troupe will perform Elephant-Foot Drum Dance. Since forming in 1991, the Hong Kong contingent - Ho Ho Chuen Dance Organisation - has been a pioneering force in rejuvenating interest in folk dance.
