Pakistan warning: The United States State Department has renewed a warning to US citizens not to travel to Pakistan and that those in the country should leave, AP reports. The department cited the conviction of four men in the slaying of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. 'While we have no specific information concerning possible retaliation by sympathisers, the potential exists for such action against US citizens and its interests,' the department said. Previous warnings were based on tensions between India and Pakistan. While they have subsided, the department said 'the risk of renewed tensions cannot be ruled out'.

Dhaka decadence: A luxury hotel which has already been four years in the building in Dhaka by the US-based Starwood Hotel and Resort Worldwide group, is finally to open its doors next year, AFP reports. The US$36 million, 25-storey hotel, which began construction in 1998, will be called Westin Dhaka and will open its doors to guests at the end of next year. The five-star hotel will have 250 rooms and is located in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka's Gulshan diplomatic area. The other leading hotels in Dhaka are the Pan-Pacific, Sheraton and Best Western chains.

More Munich: It will soon be twice as easy to travel between Dubai and Munich, as Emirates plans to double its air services to the German city. The airline will add five extra flights a week from October 27 and two more from March 31 next year to keep up with increasing demand from business and leisure travellers. The new flights will leave Dubai at 3.55pm landing at Munich at 7.35pm, and leaving again at 9.55pm to reach Dubai at 6.50am the next morning. The present daily service leaves Dubai at 8.05am, lands at 12.30pm and returns from Munich at 3.45pm, touching down in Dubai at 11.45pm. www.emirates.com

Speaking out: In addition to Internet booking services, All Nippon Airways is introducing a round-the-clock voice recognition system to ensure users can access the airline's simple booking services at any time from anywhere. Callers will be identified by their voice and, by providing passengers' names, flight numbers and destinations, the system will inform the caller of available seats, make reservations and charge for the flight. The airline will launch the new service on September 1. www.fly-ana.com
