Hong Kong gambler Johnny Wong Shu-kwan and three hitmen have been convicted of murder in Canada for their roles in the contract killing of Wong's wife, Maria.
The heavily indebted Wong and the murder-plot partners he hired - Norman Figueroa, Christian Ortiz and Andre Jones - were jailed for life in Toronto with no chance of parole for 25 years for the stabbing death.
Wong, a Hong Kong permanent ID card holder, is a long-time Canadian resident.
The verdict was delivered by a jury on Thursday after nearly three days of deliberation.
Maria Wong Lai-har, 44, also a Hong Kong permanent ID card holder, was found dead in the garage of the couple's home in the suburb of Markham, Ontario, in February 1999.
Wong publicly wept days after the murder and then fled to Hong Kong. He was arrested by Hong Kong police in August 1999.
Wong launched a Court of First Instance challenge to block an order to send him back in 2000, claiming there was insufficient evidence to link him with the crime, but failed.
