I was in Moscow last July when the voting on Beijing's bid to the 2008 Olympic Games was held. It was an exhilarating experience - both because Beijing won and because it was a great opportunity to see some wonderful sites. The 14th-century Kremlin Palace and the golden-domed Belfry of Ivan the Great are still vivid in my mind. It is amazing the tsars left so many treasures.

To relax:

Panyu, Guangzhou

I often head to Panyu, a suburb in Guangzhou, for a game of golf to ease my mind. With only a 45-minute drive across the border, you can be away from the hubbub of city life. Panyu has excellent golfing facilities - a 36-hole golf course and clubhouse - and scenic traditional villages. The resort also includes a children's science museum, a beer garden and Southeast Asia's largest temple to the sea goddess Mazu.

London

London's street markets are so full of life and always bustling. My favourite spots are the canal-side Camden market and Portobello Road market in Notting Hill. I have discovered some antiques and out-of-print books there. If you go to the British capital in summer, you can catch a Wimbledon tennis match and enjoy the local delicacy - strawberries and cream - as well.
