Making an appearance at the China Club recently, and upsetting managing director David Tang Wing-cheung, was a hairy shin and a protruding toenail.

'It is particularly disconcerting in the daytime in bright daylight, for example, when a hairy shin or protruding toenail would mar the otherwise calm and aesthetic atmosphere which the China Club has dedicated itself to offering,' wrote the cigar-munching entrepreneur in a memorandum to members.

According to Mr Tang, some members are starting to take advantage of the relaxed approach to dress code at the club, which charges HK$150,000 for a transferable membership.

To solve the problem, he suggests all members dress up as waiters.

'After all, it should be only fitting that everyone dresses better than our staff, and our staff are always dressed smartly in their starched uniform and managerial creases,' wrote the man who regularly appears at social events dressed in a pair of curtains from his Shanghai Tang retail outlet.
