GENERATION GAME: Actresses Li Xinjie, 26, (left) and Joanne Xiang, 10, share a light moment with Canto-pop singer Cass Phang Ling, 32, during rehearsals for the musical Forever Teresa Tang.
In the $15 million show, which opens today, the trio play the Taiwanese singer through different stages of her life and career. Tang died in Thailand of an asthma attack in 1995 at the age of 42. The show features a 60-strong cast and is one of the largest musicals ever staged in Hong Kong. More than 200 costumes, 30 alone for the three lead actresses, have taken dozens of seamstresses months to create.
Tang's brother, Jim Tang Tsang-hsi, has invested his own money in the show, but critics have speculated it may not break even.
