THE concessionary fare scheme for the elderly is unlikely to be extended to green minibuses, the Government said. The scheme, which China Motor Bus introduced on June 6 on a limited off-peak basis, is being monitored by the Transport Branch. But the Secretary for Transport, Yeung Kai-yin, said there was no intention of extending the scheme, according to a letter from acting Eastern District officer Annie Choi Suk-han to the Hongkong Island district office of the Federation of Trade Unions. The federation's Wong Kwok-hing said he was disappointed the scheme would not be extended, because most green minibus owners had agreed to the concessionary policy. The letter also said the Government was in favour of a senior citizen card for the elderly. It said the Health and Welfare Branch was examining various methods of implementing it.
