Taiwanese cable television operator Eastern Supermedia hopes to boost turnover by 14 per cent this year despite the tough economic environment.
The media company, the island's third-largest in terms of revenue, aims to boost turnover to NT$4 billion (about HK$932 million) from NT$3.5 billion last year, said chairman Gary Wang Ling-lin at a function celebrating the debut of the company's international channel Eastern TV on I-Cable Communication's pay TV platform in Hong Kong. He said by 2006 the company expected turnover of NT$10 billion. Its cable television unit, Eastern Multimedia Group, which has 900,000 subscribers, or 25 per cent of the market, is planning a listing in Hong Kong by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the company's television station, Eastern Broadcasting, is studying a listing either in Hong Kong or Taiwan next year.
