HONG KONG has often been described as a 'literary desert', but now young writers are turning it into an oasis by contributing to a new book of prose.
The book, titled Self-Creation, is the brainchild of Sandy Chan Siu-chi, host of Metro Broadcast's I Know Where. Most stories are about daily life, romance and relationships.
Chan says the book proves there are many good young writers in Hong Kong.
'All the articles were above standard, especially those from university students,' she says.
'Originally, I wanted articles from youngsters aged between 12 and 18, but the idea was so popular, people of different ages and occupations sent us their stories.'
But Chan feels young writers in Hong Kong could do with more help.
'I would advise them to keep trying and reading, so that their vocabulary improves,' she says.
