Pop singers spread the message of water safety under the blazing sun at Shek O
DESPITE the steaming heat, hundreds of fans gathered around the stage on Shek O Beach for the Water Safety Beach Concert recently.
The concert was jointly presented by Commercial Radio 2 and Urban Council.
''We have been co-operating with Urban Council for the past few years on projects with different themes like ''Keeping Hongkong Clean''. We used to hold concerts at Repulse Bay, but this year, we're not able to do it there,'' said a CR2 spokesman.
''We chose Shek O because it is the second most popular beach in Hongkong, so we can spread the message of water safety to more people.'' An Urban Council spokesman said the event was aimed at promoting public awareness of water safety. ''Everyone should remember safety precautions while having fun so danger and injuries can be avoided.'' In conjunction with the concert, Urban Council also held a slogan writing competition (Chinese) to promote water safety.
The winning slogans in both the junior and senior sections were announced by the hosts of the concert, who also reminded the audience to bear safety in mind while having fun.
''Don't swim when you are too full or too tired; don't swim alone, always get a companion,'' CR2 disc jockeys said.
