The most effective way for the Hong Kong government to curb the deadly avian flu epidemic that has spread throughout parts of the mainland and Hong Kong is to outlaw the sale of live and frozen chickens and encourage people to eat healthy, humane vegetarian food.
In addition to avian flu, chickens are also likely to carry listeria, salmonella, leukosis (chicken cancer), or campylobacter bacteria. Infections inevitably spread like wildfire on crowded, filthy factory farms. Chickens are crammed by the tens of thousands into warehouses with no fresh air or sunlight. They live mired in their own waste and commonly suffer from respiratory diseases, crippled legs, heart attacks and other serious ailments.
