Israeli software developer Check Point Software Technologies is mounting a renewed campaign to make its Internet security technologies a standard for mainland businesses and consumers.
Although the company continues to lead global sales of Internet firewall and virtual private network (VPN) software, chairman and chief executive Gil Shwed says Check Point has barely tapped the mainland market's potential.
'We intend to expand the number of our partners and the scope of our operations, though we've had distributors here in Hong Kong and China in the last few years,' he said.
Financial details were not disclosed, but Mr Shwed said staff that Check Point had put in charge of its mainland business were seeking Chinese electronics manufacturers as partners to help push its products to the consumer market.
Its US$300 S-box appliance, launched in January, aims to get small companies to use the same Internet firewall and VPN technologies that were previously targeted only at larger organisations.
Mr Shwed said the S-box, marketed by Check Point's SofaWare subsidiary, was part of a grand strategy to put the company's technologies directly in the hands of consumers.
