Tseung Kwan O residents should leave for work up to 10 minutes earlier when the district's new MTR line begins services next week, Commissioner for Transport Robert Footman said.
His plea follows a wave of complaints about chaos on the Kwun Tong line after the opening of the new Yau Tong station 12 days ago.
Yau Tong is also on the Tseung Kwan O line.
Mr Footman yesterday visited newly opened public transport interchanges at Po Lam, Tiu Keng Ling and Hang Hau MTR stations to see how commuters and transport operators were coping.
Some bus and minibus routes relocated their terminuses to the interchanges at the start of the week to allow more time for adjustment before the new Tseung Kwan O line fully opens on Sunday.
Mr Footman said afterwards he would visit the interchanges again on Monday to observe the first work day after the new MTR line opens.
'When things go wrong, you have to be patient because you can't put things right in a second, but we are geared up.
