One of the aims of the 35th Joint School Science Exhibition (JSSE) is finding out about different cultures.
The exhibition at the Science Museum features displays from 24 local secondary schools and five local universities. Projects by teams from the mainland, South Africa, New Zealand and Taiwan are also on display.
For the first time in the history of the JSSE, the Preparation Committee organised an 'Around the World Social', which was held recently.
The event gave the Hong Kong participants, their friends and delegates from other countries the opportunity to learn about what people from other cultures enjoy doing. The Chinese delegation performed a drama, using Putonghua and the dialect of Datong, Shanxi province.
The South African and New Zealand delegations sang their national anthems, and the South Africans read A Love Poem For My Country, by the South African poet Sandile Dikeni.
The team from Taiwan wore ethnic costumes and taught everyone a traditional dance.
