The Jockey Club has appealed for more companies to join a charity event after a disappointing response.
Executive director William Yiu Yan-pui said the club had expected 100 business and public teams to take part in its September 20 Business Challenge.
However, since its launch three weeks ago, only about 20 companies have made verbal agreements to send a total of 25 teams, with fewer than 10 written applications confirming participation as Friday's closing day approaches.
During the one-day event, teams of three people will each aim to raise $20,000 for charity by travelling to as many places as possible across the territory using various modes of transport within a limited budget.
Mr Yiu said he was considering sending funds from the event to small social organisations facing difficulties raising money amid the downturn. The final decision will be made in a Jockey Club board meeting in December.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong Christian Service yesterday appealed for donations to provide counselling to unemployed teenage girls.
