A TWO-act ballet based on the well-known romantic fairytale, Sleeping Beauty , will be staged by the Hong Kong Ballet Group at the Cultural Centre this month. Leading dancers of Sleeping Beauty will include Ravenna Tucker and Kevin O'Hare, both principal dancers from the Birmingham Royal Ballet. They appeared in Hong Kong with the Birmingham Royal Ballet at the Cultural Centre in April in Romeo and Juliet . Sleeping Beauty is a touching story about the power of love of a handsome young prince played by O'Hare who awakens his one-and-only true lover, a beautiful princess who has been sleeping for a century in a castle full of cobwebs. The choreographer for Sleeping Beauty is Yuri Ng. After graduating from the National Ballet School in Toronto of Canada in 1982, Ng received the Heinz Bosl Scholarship from the Hong Kong Ballet Group to study at the Royal Ballet School in London. Founded in 1964 by a group of ballet teachers, the Hong Kong Ballet Group produces one major full-length classical ballet production and other smaller scale productions every year. Presented by the Urban Council, the group will give two performances of Sleeping Beauty on August 20 at 7.30 pm and August 21 at 2.30 pm at the Cultural Centre Grand Theatre. Tickets at $120, $100, $80 and $60 (half-price for students and senior citizens) are available at all URBTIX outlets. For more information, call 7349009.
