Owners of diesel public and private light buses can start applying from Tuesday for a government grant or tax rebate to replace their vehicles with ones that run on liquefied petroleum gas or electricity.
Eligible diesel public light bus owners who replace their vehicles with LPG or electric-powered units can apply for grants of $60,000 or $80,000.
Diesel private light bus owners who have already switched to LPG vehicles can apply for a refund on the conversion cost or refund of the first registration tax.
Electric vehicles, including private light buses, are exempted from the tax payment.
The first registration tax for a light bus is four per cent of its value.
The Transport Department said the scheme was to encourage early replacement of the diesel vehicles with a more environmentally friendly transport.
