The two-member penny stock investigation panel has completed its interviews and is drafting its report, according to a source close to the panel.
The source said the panel would not have any problems meeting next Tuesday's deadline for it to report to Financial Secretary Antony Leung Kam-chung, who ordered the investigation.
'All the interviews and investigation work has been completed,' the source said. 'The panel members are in the process of drafting the report.'
Mr Leung called for the investigation after investors dumped more than 200 penny stocks on July 26, a day after Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing issued a consultation paper suggesting 11 criteria for delisting poorly performed companies.
The panel, comprising former stock exchange council member Gordon Kwong Chi-keung and barrister Robert Kotewall, is reviewing the roles of government officials and regulators involved as well as looking at how to improve the consultation process.
The source said the government would release the report soon after receiving it.
