Finding a permanent job in today's market can be difficult. This is one of the reasons Carmen Chan Yat-man sought a different path, one that would give her work experience without having to go through an extensive employment search. The solution was to join Manpower Services Hong Kong. The temporary staffing agency specialises in matching people with companies looking to hire for short-term employment contracts. The benefit to Ms Chan was instant job experience, even though she was not on the permanent payroll. AABecause the market here is very slow, the chance of gaining full-time employment is very difficult,'' says Ms Chan, explaining that she wants to find a full-time permanent contract, but is prepared to wait it out until the employment situation improves. She joined Manpower two years ago and has worked in several companies as a temporary contract employee. In her latest position, she has been working for four months in the purchasing department of Intel. Based in Admiralty, the office is part of Intel's regional corporate headquarters, providing Ms Chan with valuable work experience and impressive resume credentials. AAManpower has a large client base encompassing multinational companies,'' says Ms Chan, who is currently undertaking undergraduate business studies from Australia's Charles Sturt University. AAThese offer a lot of chances to work in a professional environment and gain valuable experience. It can add value to my CV.'' In recognition of employee excellence at Intel, Ms Chan was presented with a Tiffany Award at a ceremony early this month.
