Barbershop
Set in a rough part of the Chicago southside, Barbershop stars rapper Ice Cube as Calvin in a light comedy set on the tense day when he decides to sell his shop in order to realise his dream. But when a slew of his cronies and clients gather to lament the sale, Calvin tries to buy it back. Also stars rapper Eve (XXX) as Terri Jones.

'For those with any kind of pop cultural memory, it's more than a little surprising to see Ice Cube in a movie like Barbershop. What's odd is its seeming embrace of positions that the former NWA rapper might once have derided as those of a sell-out. The man who advocated burning down immigrant-run grocery stores in the song Black Korea is now seen comforting an Indian grocer whose convenience store was demolished by dumb thugs. The man who once said all white men wer04ing to be black to be cool.'
