Restaurant pioneer Michelle Garnaut is known for her ability to predict a trend. The creator of restaurants M at the Fringe and M on the Bund pre-empted the boom years and split for Shanghai with perfect timing.
But her most recent move really bucks the trend.
Garnaut is relocating to Hong Kong after a year in Shanghai, and has bought a flat in Happy Valley. 'It took living in Shanghai for me to realise I want to live in Hong Kong,' she told SAR.
'For me, it's a better and more beautiful city.
'Hong Kong is truly international, a hybrid city. You can do what you damn well like here - be who you want to be.'
Discussing her new flat - with a view of the racecourse, trees out the front and mountains behind - she said: 'People in Hong Kong forget how naturally beautiful Hong Kong is. They carry on about the air pollution all the time and I'm like well, yeah, try the mainland. People have been maligning Hong Kong for too long.'
