Canto-pop star Nicholas Tse Ting-fung will learn his fate next Wednesday when a verdict is returned in his conspiracy trial.
Magistrate Allan Wyeth, in Western Court, heard final submissions yesterday.
Tse's barrister, Cheng Huan, SC, argued the prosecution had failed to prove Tse had an 'intention' to take part in the alleged conspiracy after his Ferrari crashed in Cotton Tree Drive on March 23.
Tse, 22, and police constable Lau Chi-wai, 28, each deny a joint charge of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice between March 23 and April 12. They are accused of conspiring with Shing Kwok-ting, 34, a former driver for Tse's record company Emperor Entertainment Group, and Tse's assistant Chow Chu-fai, to falsely claim Shing was the driver.
Mr Cheng argued Shing had admitted he could not recall the sequence of events after the crash but he remembered telephoning Tse. He said Shing had agreed Tse had replied 'All right' when Shing told him over a crackling line that he had 'settled the matter with the police' and asked him 'to drive carefully in future'.
Shing had admitted it was 'possible' Tse had asked him to repeat what he said as his mobile phone was a bit noisy, Mr Cheng said, adding this was the only critical moment where allegations of conspiracy could be laid.
