The Foreign Correspondents' Club has turned into Fight Club. Four 'serious confrontations' have taken place recently at the club in Central. Two involved physical violence and the other two consisted of verbal tirades that reduced one of the club's front office staffers to tears.
An outraged Thomas Crampton, the club's president, finally decided to write to its 1,600 members to chide the boorish behaviour.
'I never imagined I would write a letter like this,' Crampton said. 'We have zero tolerance for thuggish behaviour . . . These incidents denigrated our club and each of its members. Such behaviour will not be tolerated.'
Crampton declined to name names or go into details, but SAR can reveal one brawl involved two senior members of Hong Kong's diplomatic community. Shame on you, gentlemen.
