Stage set designers are like magicians. They can turn a large piece of coral into a three-bedroom flat or a Chinese teahouse into a junk in a matter of seconds. And now you can catch a bit of this magic in a new theatre workshop.

Organised by local set designer Tsang Man-tung, the 'Disjunctive-Coding Exhibition' workshop aims at giving secondary students a better understanding of the concept of 'space and its relationship with people'.

'Through some of the exercises and models, I want to show participants how they can create their own space,' Tsang explained. 'For instance, I will ask students to use pieces of wood to create a corner, which in turn may convey a sense of loneliness.'

It is hoped that through these exercises young people can indirectly get a better understanding of theatre space and become more creative with their ideas, he added.

Tsang is known for his unconventional approach to theatre art. His previous works have all caught the public's imagination - be it a lopsided floor or a large piece of rock that can turn into a living room. On stage, he re-creates the way we look at our world.

The workshop, conducted in Cantonese, has very limited spaces left and will run on October 2 and 4.
