Stakes climb for Jacko
BIDDING for the Action Jackson Charity Drive is hotting up with an offer setting a new high of $15,000 for a ticket package for the pop superstar's Bangkok concert.
The previous leading bid of $12,800 was beaten yesterday and new bids pushed the total to $386,172.
Entries were now coming in even faster than before, according to Matt Hackett, Commercial Radio's business development manager.
The station has joined the South China Morning Post and Cathay Pacific in running the special drive, which aims at raising money for the Po Leung Kuk.
Michael Jackson had expressed a desire that $1 million should go to charity as a result of his Asian tour dates.
Mr Hackett said the organisers had noticed some of the bidders had revised their amounts and put in new bids to increase their chances of winning.
''This is what we want, to create an atmosphere of auction so as to encourage people putting in more than one bid,'' he said.
''If they really want to win the tickets, they should not be satisfied with only one bid.'' The top 100 bidders will each receive an Action Jackson package which includes one ticket to Michael Jackson's August 24 Bangkok concert, five-star accommodation and one economy class air ticket.
