The slap trap

Hong Kongers' slapping skills were again demonstrated at the weekend when a tai tai smacked former beauty queen Kristy Yeung Kung-yu on the face at Cova restaurant in Causeway Bay.

The actress, 28, has been tight-lipped about the identity of her attacker. But history will remember her as one of many red-faced victims of the public slap:

Slappy New Year

An unnamed police constable was accused of slapping teenage boy Lin Chi-wai on the face when he was celebrating New Year's Eve outside the Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Effect: Nil. A police investigation report last week dismissed the teenager's complaint.

Slap and say bye-bye

A former beauty queen and actress slapped her boyfriend during a fight at the Hong Kong Football Association last year.

Effect: The pair split.

Fatal slap

Canto-pop diva Anita Mui Yim-fong was slapped by film producer Wong Long-wai for refusing to sing karaoke in 1992.

Effect: A few days later Wong was killed by members of the Sun Yee On. In 1993, triad leader Andely Chan Yiu-hing, 'the Tiger of Wan Chai', was murdered in Macau as revenge for ordering Wong's killing.
