Sixteen bars and restaurants in Wan Chai are planning to throw a four-week-long Halloween party they hope will boost the area's appeal as a tourist attraction. They claim the event, to be held from this Monday until Sunday, November 10, will be the biggest Halloween party Hong Kong has ever seen. Announcing the plan yesterday, Wan Chai Bars' Association said venues would be decked out in ghoulish fashion and waiters and waitresses would dress up in Gothic style. There would also be lucky draws. Association spokesman Noel Smyth said: 'This is the first promotion of the Wan Chai Bars' Association. There has been never a situation that bars in Wan Chai come out together. It's a bit overdue but we feel now it is important to work as a unit.' He said the association would use the event to carry out more joint promotions in future. Mr Smyth believed the district could become the heart of Hong Kong and hoped to link up with the Hong Kong Tourism Board to promote the event. 'We have so many excellent restaurants, hotels and attractions here. We are unique in Hong Kong,' he said.
