The award for showbiz victim of the year goes to Canto-pop newcomer Juno Mak. After rumours spread that fans mobbing the 18-year-old had been hired for the role by Universal Music - talk that was scotched by the record company - there has been no shortage of fake ads on the Internet seeking to recruit professional groupies for him.
Neither Universal nor Mak's wealthy father, CCT Telecom chairman Clement Mak Siu-tong, have been able to stop the pranks. The latest doing the rounds is an anonymous e-mail that looks as though it's from an official Labour Department recruitment Web page.
A Universal spokeswoman dismissed the caper, saying Mak (right), who had not seen the ad, was taking it all in his stride. He'd probably have a good laugh if he read it though.
