Hong Kong: Frank Pong's Jelik won back-to-back line honours of the Hainan Race after beating arch-rival Sam Chan's Ffree Fire to finish first in the 355-nautical-mile Hong Kong-to-Hainan regatta in the small hours of yesterday morning. Despite reduced wind speed of five knots, Jelik crossed the line first to register 38 hours, 28 minutes and 32 seconds while Ffree Fire came second in 46:26:30. Ffree Fire had used a longer mast and sail but the changes made little impact. Her corrected time of 63:04:04 was slower than Jelik's 56:10:28. Jelik maintained her edge over Ffree Fire after beating the same boat to win last year's race but she failed to break the race record of 29:55:03 set by Ffree Fire in the 2000 regatta.
