Important peg debate should have gone ahead

The recent decision to drop a debate on the currency peg is rather unfortunate.

Any open society thrives on discussing issues and not burying things, or letting events take control. In any society people should be encouraged to discuss issues openly and should have the capacity to look at all sides of a problem, particularly the sensitive ones such as the peg issue.

Emily Lau was correct to bring up the topic for discussion. Other legislators should have supported her. Society is the loser if we avoid such debates.
