Rising sprinter Cape Of Good Hope is headed towards International Day at Sha Tin after continuing his unbeaten run at the minimum distance yesterday but David Oughton will let the gelding decide which race he contests.

Cape Of Good Hope formed the middle pin of a Douglas Whyte treble as he surged home over Crocker and Starway Patrol to make it three winning photo-finishes from three starts down the straight 1,000 metres course at Sha Tin.

'The plan has always been to run him at the International meeting, and on what he has done so far I suppose he is entitled to have go at the Hong Kong Sprint,' Oughton said.

'Whether he is good enough - or whether the Club would want him for it - I don't know, but he hasn't done anything wrong, has he? I know he doesn't win by far but he keeps winning them.'

Oughton said the impressive chestnut would run again at 1,400 metres in mid-November and it would be up to Cape Of Good Hope to get himself into the Hong Kong Sprint.

Off a rating of 100 yesterday, the gelding will rise in the revisions published this morning, but he will need to win again at his next start to be in contention.

'I guess he will have to take himself there but, anyway, if he doesn't make the cut we still have the option of our original plan to run in the Class One over 1,400 metres on International Day,' Oughton said. 'He's entered for the Hong Kong Mile as well, but I think we might be shooting a bit high there and a hard run 1,000 metres is going to suit him much better anyway.'
