The Hong Kong Press Council has issued a stern condemnation of several Chinese-language newspapers over their decision to print a picture of a naked prostitute taken hostage by a robber this month.
The council said it had received several complaints and said publication of the pictures was an abuse of freedom of the press, particularly since the woman was a victim and the newspapers were widely available to people of all ages.
