Hotel excellence: Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has once more topped the Best Business Hotel Brand in the Asia-Pacific category in Business Traveller Asia-Pacific's reader poll. The group's first hotel, the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, which last year celebrated its 30th anniversary, was awarded the Best Individual Business Hotel in the World and the Best Individual Business Hotel in Asia-Pacific, while the Makati Shangri-La won the Best Business Hotel in Manila. During the next three years the group will be expanding further into China and Malaysia, and opening three new hotels in Dubai and Oman.

Galileo service: Qantas subsidiary Australian Airlines has elected to distribute its services through Galileo International, a provider of inventory, schedule, and pricing information to the travel industry. Travel agencies and corporate customers of Galileo are now able to access the full schedules, inventory and fares of this start-up airline. Australian Airlines begins operations on Sunday from its base in Cairns, Queensland, to leisure destinations in Asia. www.asiapulse.com

Wellington opening: Six Continents Hotels and Melview Developments have agreed to establish a Holiday Inn hotel as part of a NZ$150 million (about HK$565.8 million) retail, office and residential development in the centre of Wellington. Due to open in early 2004, the 170-room Holiday Inn Wellington will become the first Holiday Inn hotel in New Zealand's capital and the first purpose-built international-standard hotel Wellington has seen in more than 12 years. SilkAir expansion: Singapore's regional airline SilkAir will launch three weekly flights to Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh from Wednesday. The flights will be code-shared with Air India. Hyderabad is a 400-year-old city perched on the top of the Deccan Plateau, 530 metres above the sea. The direct, non-stop scheduled service to Hyderabad will operate every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday using SilkAir's Airbus A319-100 aircraft. Flights will depart from Singapore's Changi Airport at 7.55pm and arrive at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad at 10pm. The return flight will leave Hyderabad at 11pm and will arrive in Singapore at 6.10am the following day.
