Man's teeth knocked out in struggle on boat

A MAN had two teeth knocked out by a naval officer during a struggle on a speedboat used for smuggling that was being driven dangerously, the District Court heard yesterday.

The speedboat's driver, So Sap-yee, 49, pleaded guilty to endangering the safety of others at sea.

He admitted having steered the speedboat in a manner that endangered the safety of Lance Corporal Philip Smith, Able Seaman Ben Nicholson and other members of the Royal Navy on January 31 in Hong Kong waters off Tap Shek Kok.

Co-defendants So Wah-yun, 33, and Chan Lok-fai, 23, pleaded guilty to endangering the safety of the naval officers by throwing hard objects at them and at the navy vessels.

The three defendants also pleaded guilty to being on board a vessel used for smuggling.

Chan admitted a count of possessing an offensive weapon.
