Scooby-Doo
Starring: Freddie Prinze Jnr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini
Director: Raja Gosnell
The film: Scooby-Doo, the Hanna-Barbera cartoon that has seemingly been on TV forever, has always flattered to deceive. It is so very watchable, should be hilariously funny, but leaves you feeling not much at all. And, as it happens, the same is true of the film.
When news of the film production initially filtered through it was thought that it might have a few rough edges, might explore a few of the myths that grew up around the series. Are, for instance, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo permanently stoned (hence their constant snacking and dazed state)? At least then there would be something to attract the older fans who grew up with the TV series.
But it's obvious from the beginning that the older folk just weren't included in the mix when Warner was deciding on the script for this one; it's aimed directly at the kids and - if box-office results are anything to go by - it scores a direct hit too.
