'Hush ...'

Kumari Nahappan is a Malaysian-born artist with a Hindu background. In this exhibition of her most recent works, she paints with slash-like brushstrokes and shadowy borders, attempting to harness 'the power of silence as a source of energy'. Francis Poulenc Quartet

Founded in 1992, this international wind quartet includes the French clarinettist Jean-Francois Philipp; Myanmar-born bassoonist Maria-Therese Yan, who moved to Paris aged three and later studied in Germany; French saxophonist Daniel Besnier and South Korean oboist Seung-eun Lee. Love In A Fallen City

Tonight is the closing night of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre's reworking of Eileen Chang's famous novel, Love In A Fallen City, about the love affair between Fan Liuyuan and Bai Liusu. The show has been conceived by artistic director Fredric Mao and dance visionary Edward Lam, with songs by Chung Chi-wing and choreography by Yuri Ng. Cross-mopolitan

As a feature of the New Vision Arts Festival, the Chung Ying Theatre Company produces a multicultural, multimedia drama with actors from Hong Kong, Nepal, the Philippines and Britain. The play is about Mr Tang, a New Territories restaurant owner whose business is threatened by competitors. He comes up with a survival plan with his Nepalese and Filipino staff. The comedy is a collaboration between Hong Kong's Chung Ying Theatre Company and Nepal's SaMa Theatre, the Philippine Educational Theatre Association and British Chinese artist David K S Tse. Classic Wind

The 27-year-old resident conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Choi Ho-man, has designed a concert dedicated to the clarinet. The Philharmonic's principle clarinettist, Andrew Simon, performs on the basset clarinet. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Simon made his debut in the Carnegie Hall Recital Hall in 1988 after winning the Artists International Young Musicians Auditions Clarinet Award. Sing Low

The newly formed Sing Low Brass Ensemble takes to the stage in Yuen Long this weekend. All the members play with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra - American tenor trombonist Jarod Vermette from Massachusetts; Polish tenor trombonist Maciek Walicki; American bass trombonist Denson Paul Pollard and Californian tubist, Paul Luxenberg. Philharmonic pianist Shirley Ip accompanies.

The Queen Of Female Principals

Visit the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and marvel at one of Hong Kong's most influential women. Fong Yim-fun - Life And Work Of A Female Cantonese Opera Artist is a retrospective of Fong's life. The Chinese opera star appeared in more than 150 Cantonese opera films and a similar number of stage productions. The roles she played always reflected the nature of women in society, earning her the title of 'Queen Of Female Principals' in 1952 from the Hong Kong newspaper Amusement News. Max! Film Festival

This three-week film festival featuring works from Germany, Austria and Switzerland comes to a close today. Tonight at 6.30pm is The Slurb, a German film about a mild-mannered umbrella designer who is taken advantage of by a string of domineering women until a Speckled Little Unidentified Red-headed Being (Slurb) materialises to teach him some lessons. At 8.30pm, Austrian director Douglas Wolfsperger's award-winning documentary Bellaria - As Long As We Live! screens. It's about a small cinema in Vienna that attracts elderly fans of movies made by the famous Ufa film company. The director makes a star appearance at tonight's screening.
