WHICH HONG KONG stars would you choose to represent you in court?
This is not a frivolous question, but part of a survey conducted by the Law Society of Hong Kong to gauge how much Hong Kong's youth know about the law, and what they think of it.
In September, 1,002 young people aged between 11 and 25 were asked to rate eight actors who have each played a lawyer or advocate at one stage in their career.
Do Do Cheng starring in popular courtroom sitcom War Of The Genders ranked the highest. Twenty-nine per cent of respondents said they would prefer her to speak for them. Cheng was followed by her co-star in the series Wong Tze-wah, who secured 15 per cent of the votes. Flora Chan Wai-shan came third with 14 per cent. Other choices included Hacken Lee, Stephen Chiau Sing-chi, Sandra Ng Kwun-yu and Cheung Tat-ming. While seven per cent could not make a decision, six per cent of the interviewees were not accounted for.
The survey, released last week, was part of Law Week 2002. This year's event aimed to raise awareness of law, with activities running from September 30 to October 26.
'Hearing the voice of the youth is very important. We often forget they are affected every day by divorce, drugs and discussions about our legal independence,' said Anthony James Hung, chairman of Law Week's organising committee.
