Award-winning actress Dodo Cheng Yu-ling doesn't need Hong Kong youngsters to tell her how smart she is. A Law Society survey released last week showed that nearly 30 per cent of 1,000 young people would choose Cheng - who played a lawyer in the popular TV series War Of The Genders - to represent them in court.
'I think it's because I am a righteous person and someone to be trusted,' Cheng (left) said. So much so that she can't think of any other star who could hold a candle to her.
'If I were to choose someone to represent me in court, I would choose myself,' said Cheng. 'I can, can't I?'
Of course you can. SAR remembers how in the late 1980s Cheng dismissed her interpreter in a court case involving former ATV chief Deacon Chiu Te-ken. The actress told her floundering translator to return to his seat before giving witness evidence herself in English. That's what we call a sterling performance.
