Mother, son on way to family breakfast before tragedy struck

The mother who was knocked down and killed by a lorry after pushing her three-year-old son out of the way yesterday was taking the boy for breakfast at her husband's cafe before disaster struck.

Kwok Ling-ling, 41, chased after son Ng Chun-yin after the boy ran on to the New Territories-bound lane of Ping Che Road at Ta Kwu Ling at about 10am, police said.

'The woman pushed her son away from the lorry to save his life before she was hit and run over by the vehicle,' Senior Inspector Leung Woon-cheung of New Territories North traffic unit said.

'Her son suffered minor injuries to his right arm and face in the incident. He was found crying on the roadside beside the lorry.'

Police said the driver of the lorry passed a breathalyser test.

Mr Leung said the woman lost her life to save her son and she was a 'great mother'.
